A MAN has been arrested after he impersonated a police officer in Bromsgrove last Saturday.

Around 8.30am a man knocked on the door of a house in Gilbert Road, Charford. He was wearing a police style cap, a fake beard and a lanyard displaying an officer identification badge.

He asked to gain access to the back garden through the property but the victim suspected he was not an officer and declined.

A 60-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary and impersonating a police officer. He was also wanted on recall to prison.

PC Lyndon Jackson said: “Impersonating a police officer is a serious offence and we understand this incident may cause concern.

“Genuine police officers will always be happy to verify their identity.

“If you are unsure, you can ask to see a warrant card and, if necessary, call 101 to confirm an officer’s details.”

He urged anyone who had experienced a similar situation to email him at: [email protected] to report it.

And he stressed that in an emergency, or if a crime was in progress, people should always dial 999.
