A MALVERN woman has helped raise nearly £3,000 for a Northfield hospital charity after organising a fundraising spinathon challenge to say thank you to the care provider for her treatment.

Kerry Papps’ spinathon at Anytime Fitness Malvern on July 27 raised £2,700 for The Royal Orthopaedic Charity (ROC) from a mixture of online donations and contributions during the event.

Kerry received extensive treatment at The Royal Orthopaedic Hospital (ROH) after an X-ray found an aggressive giant cell tumour in her left wrist in July 2023.

Her first surgery involved removing the radius bone, which was replaced with temporary custom metal plating.

The second surgery, in February 2024, involved the fibula being removed from Kerry’s leg to be grafted into her arm, a nine-hour operation.

Her 12-hour Spinathon, which started at 7am, saw over 200 spin bikes filled and over 2000 miles travelled. The event was filled with balloons, donation buckets, and an array of cakes and refreshments were available for participants.

Donations have enabled the development of staff, funded enhanced equipment and enabled pioneering research.

Kerry Papps said: “It was a fantastic event, the energy from everyone was truly amazing, thank you to Anytime Fitness for hosting.

“I am so grateful to everyone who participated and to those who donated for the ROC, an amazing charity that do so much good.

“I’d also like to encourage others to do fundraising events and raise money for brilliant causes, whilst having fun too.”

Charlotte Thornewell, ROC community fundraiser, says Kerry is an ‘inspiration’ and the hospital charity are ‘incredibly grateful’ for her efforts.

Charlotte added: “We admire how she has transformed such a challenging experience into a powerful fundraising opportunity.

“Kerry’s commitment is a fantastic example of how one person can make a profound difference and we hope others will follow in her footsteps.

“If you want to make a meaningful impact like Kerry, ROC is here to support you every step of the way.

“No matter how you choose to get involved, your efforts will help us continue to provide life changing services and added comforts to patients and their families. Thank you Kerry for your incredible support and determination.”
