Fuel tax hike 'would have hammered working families in Bromsgrove'

BROMSGROVE MP Bradley Thomas has welcomed the extension of the fuel duty freeze.

In 2022, the Conservative government introduced a 5p cut in response to elevated prices after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

In her Autumn Budget 2025, the Chancellor announced the 5p cut would be slowly reduced, with motorists facing a 1p increase in September, a 2p increase in December and another 2p increase in March.

However, the Government has announced they’re reversing course, and instead the 5p cut on fuel duty will be extended to the end of the year.

Bradley said: “Having voted to axe the planned fuel tax hike, I’m pleased the Government has seen sense and scrapped their planned fuel duty hike.

“The Government’s fuel tax hike would have hurt businesses and hammered hardworking families across Bromsgrove .”
