RESIDENTS in Rednal and Rubery have hit out after several reported incidents of disorder and anti-social behaviour in the area on Halloween.

People took to social media to highlight fireworks being let off in the street, masked teenagers carrying ‘dozens of eggs’ and an incident at Tesco on New Road where a car was reportedly turned onto its side.

The person who posted that post said he and others tried to vehicle back on its wheels but too much damage had been caused.

Other reports included fence panels being broken, car windows being smashed near Cock Hill, a street robbery where mobile phones were stolen, residents being threatened with knives and another mugging near Callowbrook Park.

Residents contacted Coun Andy Cartwright, Coun Peter McDonald and Longbridge Neighbourhood Watch about the incidents and they all contacted the police in a bid to deal with the situation.

A spokesperson for Longbridge Neighbourhood Watch said: “It was absolutely horrendous.

“I think it’s disgraceful that young people though it was acceptable behaviour to terrorise the people in the areas they live in.

“Not only have they disrespected their area, they have also subjected many households of all ages, the vulnerable and people with disabilities to a night of terror.

“We need a resolution. The only way we are going to do this is by cross-border working to stamp out the issues which arose that night.”

A meeting about what happened on Halloween and other problems has been organised for 6.30pm on November 23 at Deelands Hall in Frankley.

Councillors Andy Cartwright, Carole Griffiths and Peter McDonald, Northfield MP Richard Burden, Bromsgrove MP Sajid Javid and West Mercia and West Midlands Police have all been invited to the get together and residents affected are urged to attend.

Coun Cartwright said he had numerous messages from scared residents.

“Someone must know who they are and where they purchased the fireworks from.

“I want to appeal to parents to ask their children what they were up to on Halloween because sadly a small group is ruining it for many others.”

A West Mercia Police spokesperson said officers attended a report of criminal damage at a property in Barrington Road where damage was caused to a fence.

And he added two people were believed to have been involved in an altercation with a larger group where items were taken by the larger group.

“At this stage West Mercia Police are not treating the incidents as linked however we are open to the possibility,” he said.

He said the incident where the car was reportedly turned on its side at Tesco Express.

West Midlands Police confirmed officers were called to the supermarket but could find no trace of any disorder when they arrived.

Witnesses or anyone with any information on those or other incidents of anti-social behaviour in Rednal on Tuesday should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
