County projects set for £2.7m boost from Levelling Up funding

SEVERAL projects across Worcestershire will benefit from £2.7million from the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.

The cash – a share of £200million awarded nationwide – is part of the UK Community Renewal Fund (CRF).

The funding is for locally-led innovative projects which help communities, businesses and young people.

One project sees businesses receive reviews and support to help them decarbonise and reach Net Zero Carbon targets.

Another will help people learn new digital skills and improve their resilience and mental wellbeing, to increase their chances of finding work.

A ‘Technology Accelerator’ pilot scheme will help foster entrepreneurism in North Worcestershire for start-up and scale-up businesses, also promoting low and zero-carbon technologies.

Another scheme will help find the untapped potential of the film industry business by upskilling and reskilling young people to develop creative and entrepreneurial talent, generating new employment and attracting investment in the process.

Young people at secondary schools, middle schools, special schools, colleges, youth and community hubs in Worcestershire will be assisted to help them develop their enterprise skills.

And the Community Renewal Fund will pilot imaginative new programmes to boost productivity, grow local economies and help areas prepare for the launch of the UK Shared Prosperity Fund in 2022 – that will see UK-wide funding at least match EU money, reaching around £1.5billion a year.

Coun Marc Bayliss, Worcestershire County Council’s cabinet member with responsibility for economy and skills, said he was thrilled with the funding boost.

“The projects that this will support are exciting, innovative, and will be an asset to the future of economy of Worcestershire.
