A COUNCILLOR has called for urgent action on a dangerous road in Hagley after a car crashed down an embankment.
Coun Steve Colella, who represents Hagley West on Bromsgrove District Council, is appealing for Worcestershire Highways to do something about Station Road in the village.
It comes after a car lost control and careered down the railway bridge embankment ending up on Station Drive below. It was miraculous no one was injured.
Coun Colella is also campaigning about the pavement on the bridge and either side which is very narrow. More than 1,000 school pupils use it every day and have to walk in the road, in fromt of oncoming traffic.
He added something needed to be done to combat both issues before there was a serious injury or death.
“Despite all of these warning signs, nothing has been done by the relevant authorities. I
“I question what needs to happen before something is actually done.”
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson said: “”We will work with our police colleagues to investigate the recent vehicle incident on Station Road and Station Drive.
“In regards to the railway footbridge, we have visited the site with the local county councillor, alongside West Midlands Railway, to understand how the pedestrian footfall is managed currently at the station.
“On our site visit we raised the hedgerow overgrowth and the relevant parties have organised this to be cut back which has widened the footpath significantly.
“We are now exploring options as to whether anything further can be done to improve pedestrian access and safety at the station.”
