BROMSGROVE shoppers have been praised after contributing almost £200 to The Bear Rescue Group, writes Sam Arrowsmith.
Residents donated £196.60 to the cause during a High Street collection by the charity on July 22.
The international non-profit organisation is dedicated to the liberation of bears from cruelty throughout Asia.
It was formed in 1998 with the specific intention of protecting Moon Bears, who are kept in captivity, in horrendous conditions for the extraction of bile from their gall bladders to make traditional Oriental medicine, an invariably painful process.
The group has recently extended its activities to the protection of cats and dogs, from trafficking for meat markets and protecting zoo animals.
Christine Coldrick is the Worcestershire co-ordinator for welfare group Animals Asia, which The Bear Rescue Group comes under.
