Bromsgrove MP suffers 'appalling and inappropriate' abuse

PEOPLE have leapt to the support of Bromsgrove MP Bradley Thomas after he said he was subjected to the ‘most vile social media abuse’ he has faced since he became an MP.

Mr Thomas, first elected as MP back in 2024, took to social media to vent his frustration.

In a statement, he said he was happy to be held to account for how he had voted and for his views but felt that subjecting him and his team to the ‘most appalling and inappropriate language’ was ‘not how politics should be done in this country’.

He added: “In recent days I have been subjected to the vilest abuse on social media I have experienced in the two years since I’ve been the MP for Bromsgrove.

“Now, whilst most of the abuse is coming from people who don’t actually live in our constituency, I’d suggest anyone who is abusive online pauses to reflect on their language.

“I make myself as accessible as possible on social media. I respond to comments and messages and I post about the work I’m doing and how I’ve voted in Parliament.

“That’s how it should be.

“I’m your voice in Westminster and it’s only right you’re kept up-to-date with what I’m doing.

“Please continue to challenge how I’ve voted and my views, but let’s do politics better and do so in a respectful way.

“I will not hesitate to block those who are abusive.”

Following the post, many people leapt to Mr Thomas’ support on Facebook.

One woman said: “I don’t support Conservative, however I do think you are a very visible MP and care about your constituency and for that I’m very grateful.

“Absolutely nobody should be abused for their political views – it’s what makes us a democracy.

“I am so sorry you’ve been subjected to such awful abuse.”

Another added: “Regardless of your views on politics, abuse is never acceptable.”
