THE BROMSGROVE man who set himself a challenge of running 75km in the week leading up to his 75th birthday to raise funds for the Midlands Air Ambulance has completed his quest.

Roger Ottley notched up 10km on the first day, followed by 11.11km on day two and 9km each on days three and four.

He then ran 11.79km on day five, 12.1km on day six and 13.5km on the final day.

He had the support of more than 20 of his fellow runners who each accompanied him for one or more of his daily runs.

He completed his seven-day challenge at the Boat and Railway where his friends and family greeted him to celebrate him crossing the finish line.

His grandchildren, daughter and son-in-law ran the last 4km with him which was really special.

The celebrations then followed with drinks, cake and presents.

Roger, who is a member of two running clubs – Avoncroft Hurriers and Run Sanders, set himself a fundraising target of £500.

At the time of going to press, Roger’s total was up to £925.

His supporters are hoping he will get to the £1,000 mark.

He has also been invited to the Midlands Air Ambulance HQ where he will be able to meet crew members and have a photograph with them and the helicopter.

One of Roger’s friends, Kirsty Underhill said: “We are all in awe of him and what he has achieved, especially at 75.”
