Bromsgrove Choral Society's urgent appeal for singers to save it from its swansong

BROMSGROVE Choral Society has issued an urgent appeal for new members to join ahead of its ‘final concert’.

The long-established group has seen a huge slide in member numbers in recent years and a drop in those watching too.

Unless there’s a sudden resurgence, the society will sing for the final time on May 2 at North Bromsgrove High School.

Chairman Eddie Clulee said: “After performing concerts in Bromsgrove for more than 71 years our choir is in deep need of more singers and a financial injection if it is to continue its activities.

“We are a warm, friendly, sociable choir, and new members are always made very welcome.

“No audition is necessary and scores are provided on loan at no extra cost.”

For many years the choir flourished under tight leadership and grants from the Bromsgrove District Council and Worcestershire County Council.

John Brierley, who became the group’s conductor in 2009, said: “I have enjoyed our singing and fellowship for many years, but now we need more voices in order to continue.”

Rehearsals take place every Monday between 7.30pm and 9.30pm at St John’s Middle School (B61 7DH).

For more information contact the group’s secretary Eileen Kirby, on 01527 871237.
