Bromsgrove charity says response to refugee plight 'overwhelming'

GENEROUS Bromsgrove residents have donated more than 150 bags full of items for refugees at camps across Europe.

The donations were collected by members of the Bromsgrove Welcomes Refugees Committee (BWRC) at St John’s Church community hall last Saturday.

Kind-hearted residents donated clothes, blankets, bed sheets, shoes and items for ‘dignity packs’ which will be distributed by Malvern-based charity, People in Motion.

BWRC vice chairman Naeem Arif said: “I was overwhelmed by the generosity of the people of Bromsgrove who have once again shown their support for the victims of horrors of war.”

Bromsgrove District Council chairman Coun Caroline Spencer was one of the many people who helped at last Saturday’s collection day.

She also said the wonderful response shown by residents was overwhelming.

Naeem added: “The need to help families stuck in horrid conditions in camps across Europe is desperate and any help we provide will be so gratefully appreciated.”

The next collection date has been earmarked for April 16 from 2pm to 5pm at St John’s Church community hall.
