THIS SUMMER, residents in Redditch and Bromsgrove can slow down and take time out with sessions being run by the borough and district councils, writes Anna Hunt.
In Redditch, there are Tai Chi sessions at 1.30pm every Tuesday at Arrow Valley Country Park. The free sessions are being funded by Worcestershire County Council.
Those who wish to enjoy gentle exercise in a welcoming outdoor environment being asked to meet by the amphitheatre next to the play park.
Participants can enjoy a range of physical and mental wellbeing benefits from Tai Chi, including improved balance, greater flexibility, increased strength, reduced stress and general health and wellbeing boosts from exercise outside in the fresh air.
In Bromsgrove, there will be free yoga sessions at 9.30am every Saturday throughout the summer, starting tomorrow (Saturday, July 18).
The yoga has been organsied by Bromsgrove District Council working with Catshill Parish Council and Bromsgrove PCN and take place at Catshill Meadow.
People are being urged to stretch, unwind and rconnect with nature and can just turn up to the outdoor setting ‘with a smile and mat (or towel).
Participants can enjoy a range of benefits from taking part in yoga, including improved posture and mobility, an increase in strength and balance, reduce stress levels and enhanced overall wellbeing.
Redditch Borough Council leader, Coun Matt Dormer, said “Tai Chi is a gentle and accessible form of exercise that offers a variety of physical and mental health benefits.
“We’re pleased to be able to offer these free sessions and encourage residents to come along and give it a try.”
Bromsgrove District Council’s Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing, Leisure and Culture, Coun Shirley Webb, said “Yoga is a wonderful way to take some time for yourself, whether you’re looking to become more active or simply enjoy a relaxing start to the weekend.”
She added she was delighted to support these sessions as it made it easier for residents to get outdoors, meet new people and enjoy the benefits of exercise.
