As new year approaches, we reveal our best-read Bromsgrove Standard stories of 2021

Bromsgrove Editorial 31st Dec, 2021   0

AS 2021 comes to a close, we look back at the year and the most popular stories on our Bromsgrove Standard website.

We have loved bringing you all the latest news, sport and entertainment over the past 12 months and the interaction with our readers during the past year – both on our website and on social media.

Since January 1, more than 675,000 people have logged onto the Bromsgrove Standard website, with over 3.5million page views.

As is probably true in the national news, our best-read stories have been dominated by Covid-19 – whether it be about Artrix becoming a vaccination centre, our ‘behind the scenes’ look at the centre and the latest news and figures on the different variants.

Stories involving the emergency services also continue to be popular, along with our Worcestershire County Council election coverage and planning stories, such as Perryfields, Whitford Road and the Waseley Hills Cemetery.

But there have been plenty of human interest pieces as well which have caught your attention.

Bromsgrove couple Sally and Kevin tying the knot in January in the snow – a white wedding with a difference – at Nick’s Sandwich Van in Rubery was read by more than 21,000 people. In case you missed it, you can check it out below.

Bromsgrove Lottery winners Andrea and Mike Law who scooped the £2million jackpot prize in November was also popular, being read almost 12,000 times. Click below to read the full story.

The tributes to UB40’s Astro – who died in November – was also among the best-read stories of 2021. Click below to read our piece on the much-loved reggae artist.

Former Labour leader Councillor Michael Thompson crossing the floor to join the Conservatives in January gained a lot of interest in January. Check out that story below.

And the Rose and Crown Hotel in the Lickey Hills making it onto hit Channel 4 show ‘Four in a Bed’ was also well-viewed by our readers. You can remind yourself of that piece below.

It has been a very eventful 2021 and promises to be another busy one in 2022.

Thanks to all of our readers and advertisers for your support over the past 12 months.

From us all at the Bromsgrove Standard, have a very happy new year!
