A RUBERY councillor has welcomed the confirmation that £120,000 will be used for a feasibility study into the creation of a central plaza and meeting place in the village centre.

The cash, which will also look at reconfiguring parking in Rubery, was rubber-stamped in Bromsgrove District Council’s 2025/26 budget last week.

Coun Peter McDonald, who campaigned for the cash, told the Standard: “It’s good news for Rubery – at long last there will be investment in Rubery.

“The council have agreed to carry out a full feasibility study for the regeneration of Rubery.

“There is no doubt regeneration would revitalise and transform Rubery and in doing so enhance community wellbeing.

“Rubery is desperate need of investment we are one of the few villages that does not have a village hall – one would combat the risk of social isolation and loneliness and promote inclusion.

“It would also allows villagers to support their own facility by investing time and effort into activities happening local to them.

“It would also be able to host a variety of activities which build relationships and lasting friendships.”

He added Rubery high street (New Road) was in need of a welcomed facelift making it more attractive to businesses and shoppers alike.

“Rubery has been forgotten for too long, with Bromsgrove town centre being at the centre of any investment, but now Rubery, which has always been seen as an outpost on the Birmingham border, is to have the investment it has been longing for.”
