The Cambridge pub in Longbridge reopens with a new look after revamp

THE CAMBRIDGE pub has reopened in Longbridge today (Friday) with a new look, following a six-figure investment.

The Hungry Horse pub has been closed for the last few weeks to undergo a complete revamp from top to bottom which has also brought eight new jobs.

The venue has new furniture and decor and the bar has been moved to provide more open space. It has increased the capacity by 40.

The main seating area and the upstairs has been refurbished and modernised and there is a new self-serve coffee station.

The pub’s general manager Alex Bushell, who has been at the pub for eight years – two years as manager, said: “We couldn’t be more excited to welcome back our customers, both old and new, whom we’ve missed while we’ve been closed.

“Everyone who came in and remembers how it used to look said ‘wow’.

“We strive to be a family pub and want to be part of the community.”

Alex started as bar staff and worked her way up through the ranks and loves working at The Cambridge.

She added: “It’s a home away from home for me.

“The guests we get are lovely – we do have a few drinking regulars, but it is mainly food-led and for families.”

She added the pub had always enjoyed a good footfall and steady trade throughout the day and night.

Among those visiting are commuters based at the Premier Inn, shoppers from the retail park, families and friends going out for drinks and meals.

The Cambridge has also been a long supporter of Macmillan Cancer Support and will be organising events to raise funds for the charity. These will include quizzes and a family fun day.

Our verdict

We were invited out last night for a special preview evening to see The Cambridge’s new-look, along with getting to try the food and drink.

The staff were very welcoming, attentive and happy to chat.

The pub had a warm atmosphere and was a pleasure to be in.

We were impressed with the range of drink and the variety of dishes on the menu – the food is also good value for the portions too.

Two of our party had the Smoky Jack’s burger with salt and pepper fries, another had the ‘Quadzilla’ – an even larger burger – which would satisfy even the biggest appetites.

And we had a vegan among us who was very impressed with the vegan lasagne.

Overall, there is a good choice of food and drink and The Cambridge is well worth a visit – we had a great night.

And the fact another eight new jobs have been created is a bonus.
