Festive fun aplenty as the Fairbourne Dodders stage Jack and the Beanstalk

THERE was plenty of festive fun at Dodford Village Hall when the Fairbourne Dodders staged the traditional panto Jack and the Beanstalk.

The production had a great community feel and included lots of one-liners and audience participation, along with the must-have pantomime cow Daisy which delighted the crowd.

Clementine Kear was a sound Jack who got the crowd going, Sam Halfpenny provided lots of fun as Dame Trott but the firm crowd favourites were Emily Fannon and Sarah Lloyd as guards Push and Shove.

Among the highlights were the chorus’ song and routine to ‘The Giant Sleeps Tonight’ to the tune the Tight Fit classic and Push and Shove’s scene in the second half with plenty of innuendos and the soaking of the first few rows was particularly enjoyable (we were further back).

There were a few mishaps with lines on the opening night but the cast, especially the Dame dealt with them well, ad-libbing to gain a few extra laughs.

And getting the children on stage for the ‘half and half’ Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer singing competition and the mass White Christmas singalong at the very end ensured everyone went away feeling fantastically festive.

The remaining performances of Jack and the Beanstalk take place at Dodford Village Hall at 7.30pm on Friday and Saturday, November 30 and December 1 and there is also a matinee on the Saturday.
