MOTOR manufacturing in south west Birmingham will be celebrated this Saturday, April 15, when the 2023 Pride of Longbridge takes place at Cofton Park.
Between 10am and 4pm, there will be hundreds of vehicles descending on the area, all with one thing in common – they were built at Longbridge.
Among the models will be Minis, MGs, Rovers, Metros, Maestros, Allegros and more.
The event is free and, as well as the cars, it will give ex-employees of the car plant the chance to catch up and reminisce about their days ‘the Austin’ and MG Rover.
An ex-workers’ meeting place will be set up and there will be community stalls, food and drink, face painting and much more.
Last year saw the Pride of Longbridge return after two years because of the pandemic.
Organiser Gemma Cartwright MBE said: “It was like we had never been away.
“We had an amazing turnout to celebrate our proud heritage and we are hoping this year’s will be the same.”
The Pride of Longbridge Rally was started in 2005 following the collapse of MG Rover which led to thousands of jobs being lost, and since the inaugural one it has gone from strength-to-strength,
welcoming more and more visitors each time.
Among the celebrations this year will be MG’s centenary and the 40th anniversary of the Austin Maestro.
