ALVECHURCH’S clash with Redditch United in the Worcestershire Senior Cup later this month will be free entry for all.
The Reds and Church have worked closely to offer supporters free entry to the quarter-final clash on Thursday, December 29 with kick-off at 7.45pm at the Trico Stadium.
Both clubs are aware that the festive period is a tough time for people financially and wanted to give something back to the local community given the current cost of living crisis and rise in energy bills.
Alvechurch chairman Richard Thorndike said: “It’s not often that fans get to see a local derby at this level for free but when the Redditch United Chairman called to propose free entry for our Worcestershire Senior Cup fixture, I jumped at the chance.
“With the cost of living crisis and the hike in energy prices, we both feel it is the right thing to do, especially given the time of year.
“We hope for a packed Trico Stadium and a good festive atmosphere which I think both teams deserve. Make no mistake, we’ll be taking this game seriously, we owe them one!”
Redditch United Chairman, David Faulkner, added: “We are very excited to be able to open up our gates for this festive fixture.
“Both clubs have had fantastic seasons so far and we have both backed up the football with our growing work in the community.
“Christmas, especially this year, could be a hard time for some. I am sure our small gesture will go a long way for many people.”
The two teams will also meet three days earlier in a Southern League Premier Central clash on Boxing Day at Lye Meadow.
