Warning issued after driver pulled over in cloned car on the M5 near Bromsgrove was 'innocent buyer who had been scammed'

A WARNING has gone out to drivers thinking of buying a car after one unsuspecting motorist pulled over by police on the M5 near Bromsgrove was found to be in a cloned vehicle.

Officers from Worcestershire Operational Policing Unit made the stop last night and were assisted by Central Motorway Police Group and a West Midlands Police Traffic Unit.

Checks revealed it was stolen from London earlier this year  and the plates had been changed on it.

Officers found the driver was an innocent buyer who had been scammed.

People buying vehicles are being urged to carry out thorough checks on its history, including a VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) check and research the dealer or person selling it.

Signs of damage should also be carried out to ensure the car has not been previously involved in a crash or, even worse, a serious category write-off.
