A LANDSCAPING company based in Worcester used canal water to extinguish a wildfire opposite their clients property in Bromsgrove yesterday (August 11).

Envisage Gardens were working on a property in the district when the team noticed the field opposite the property had started to smoke.

They phoned the Fire Brigade, but the we’re unable to locate the fire as they were miss-directed.

The team took matters into their own hands and using the neighbouring canal to put out the flames.

They later discovered how heroic their efforts were as the building adjacent to the fire was a gas bottle fuel store.

Charlie Hartigan, landscape architect, and director at Envisage Gardens said: “The occupant of the white house works in radio so had headphones on and was completed unaware of the danger he was in. After some time, we were able to raise his attention.

“The whole situation could have been so much worse than it was.

“Our team dropped everything on site and rushed to barrow buckets of water collected from the canal. Running backwards and forwards for an hour in this heat.

“Our guys literally put their lives at risk ensuring this building didn’t catch fire. But I’m proud of them for their instinct to be to put others first.”
