A TOTAL of 33 train fare dodgers were caught and fined at Longbridge Railway Station in just three-and-a-half hours last Wednesday.

Enforcement officers were joined by colleagues from British Transport Police to clampdown on those trying to travel without paying.

A West Midlands Railway spokesperson said the operation was aimed at reassuring fare-paying customers that action would be taken against those who chose to avoid paying their way.

“The vast majority of our passengers follow our advice and make sure they have a valid ticket before boarding the train.

“The small number who do not buy a ticket before travelling from a station where ticket-buying facilities are available risk being issued with a penalty fare.

“Tickets can be purchased online, from ticket vending machines, ticket offices or via the West Midlands Railway app.”
