Droitwich Spa Community Choir raises £1,000 for charity with concert

A FREE concert has raised an amazing £1,000 for charity.

By giving free entry to their spring concert, with a free programme and free refreshments to all who attended, the generous supporters of Droitwich Spa Community Choir together raised the bumper sum for Acorns Children’s Hospice Trust.

Janet Stedman, the choir’s chairperson, was able to present a cheque to Acorns representative Tony Lewis thanks to the community of Droitwich, the businesses who advertised in the programme, the audience who attended the concert, and partners Waitrose who provided all the refreshments.

The concert featured several new medleys of songs arranged by Keith Lewis, the choir’s musical director, and performances by the Hadzor Handbell Ringers.

During the lockdowns of the last two years the choir has kept in practice thanks to Zoom rehearsals, by singing outdoors in Lido Park and singing for five of the town’s care homes.

As restrictions have eased, more members have returned and new members have been joining every week.

The Song for the Commonwealth was performed in Vines Park for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and at the start of the choir’s performance in Victoria Square on June 4.

Having already performed at one of the town’s festivals – St Richard’s Boat Festival – the choir is now preparing new material for the SaltFest in September.

Anyone wishing to join the choir is welcome to attend on Tuesday evenings at 7.30pm at the Baptist Church on Ombersley Road East. Phone 01905 938165 for details.
