Bromsgrove District Council apologises over unlit Lights of Love tree and says problems will be resolved

BROMSGROVE District Council has apologised to residents after the Lights of Love tree outside Asda was left not lit.

The authority has moved to reassure those who have contributed to the campaign that technical problems that caused the darkness had now been resolved.

Mark Norton contacted The Standard about the issue and said his wife and her sister had been very upset and disappointed because the tree was not illuminated.

“The day after the switch on, we noticed the tree was not lit but assumed it would soon be resolved.

“Two weeks later, on the Sunday just gone, we were amazed to see the tree was still off,” he said.

They contacted the Primrose Hospice which said it was the district council’s responsibility, adding the charity had got in touch with the council to see what could be done.

A Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson said: “We understand how upsetting this must be and would first of all like to apologise.

“However we believe the reoccurring problems with an underground wire have been resolved and we will be double checking this later on today to ensure the Lights of Love continue to shine.”
