Three heritage diesel locomotives passed through Bromsgrove on bank holiday Monday

Bromsgrove Editorial 4th May, 2017   0

THREE HERITAGE diesel locomotives passed through Bromsgrove and Droitwich whilst heading to appear in a gala.

The locomotives included a class 55, number 55018, a class 45 and a class 31, numbered 45041 and 31271 respectively.

The trio passed through the area on bank holiday Monday (May 1) around 12.35 whilst heading to Kidderminster from a preserved railway in Peterborough.

The class 55, actually numbered 55022, and renumbered to 55018 in tribute to a class-mate which was cut-up in 1982, hauled the class 45 and class 31 under its own power.

The three locomotives are all former British Rail main-line locomotives that are now preserved and privately owned, with two of them being in preservation for longer than they were in operational use for British Rail.

The locomotives are set to appear in a diesel gala at the Severn Valley Railway this month. Visit www.svr.co.uk for more information.
