Bromsgrove urges to come together for Holocaust Memorial Day

Bromsgrove Editorial 22nd Jan, 2017   0

RESIDENTS, schools and other community groups of all faiths and no faith can go to Bromsgrove’s annual Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) commemoration.

The event, hosted by Bromsgrove District Council chairman Helen Jones and held in connection with the HMD Trust, will take place at 11am on Thursday (January 26) at the Parkside Suite, Market Street.

Coun Jones said: “Every year we set aside time to remember and think about the tragedy and atrocity of the Holocaust as a community, so that such a thing may never be allowed to happen again.

“This year up and down the county the theme for Holocaust Memorial Day is ‘how can life go on’, which asks us to consider our own responsibilities in the wake of genocide.

“There are no simple answers but the important thing is that we continue to ask it and discuss it together.”

Holocaust Memorial Day itself is on Friday (January 27) and offers everyone the chance to pause and remember the millions of people who were murdered or who had their lives changed beyond recognition during the Holocaust, Nazi Persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and Darfur.

In The Holocaust 11million people, including 6million Jews, were systematically murdered in Europe between 1941 and 1945 by the Nazis and their collaborators.

It is the worst genocide in history.
