Bromsgrove Council issues warning to residents after staff error leads to council tax payments being taken out five days early

A WARNING has gone out to Council Tax payers in Bromsgrove that the direct debit for this month’s fee will be taken out tomorrow (Monday) – five days earlier than expected.

The error, relating to payments would usually be taken on Friday (October 21), has come about because of a glitch in the system.

The council has apologised for the fault and wants to reassure anyone affected by it that they will not incur costs as a result.

Bromsgrove District Council’s head of customer services Amanda Singleton said: “We are very sorry if this unfortunate error causes anyone any inconvenience.

“It will not cost anyone any money, however, as if these early payments result in any charges they can be reimbursed.

“We will also be writing to everyone affected detailing some extra support if required.”

It comes after a processing error on Friday afternoon (October 14) which has meant Council Tax Direct Debits due for October 21 were accidentally included in another routine billing run of Direct Debit payments to come out on the October 17. Unfortunately, the run cannot be reversed.

Anyone who may experience any problems as a result of the early payment on Monday, should go to www.bromsgrove.gov.uk/october for more information or contact the council’s revenues team on 01527 881288, where they will get any support you may require.

The payments will not be taken again on October 21 and normal service will be resumed.
