RESIDENTS are being urged to take the tools they no longer need or use to Bromsgrove’s Broad Street DIY so they can be recycled to help disadvantaged people in the local community.
The recycle week takes place from Monday (June 13) to next Sunday (June 19) at the Worcester Road store where there is a large wooden crate where people can leave their items.
Once collected, the tools go to Bromsgrove charity NewStarts, which helps local families and individuals on low incomes or in financial crisis.
The campaign is suitable for both hand and power tools. NewStarts will run PAT tests to ensure electrical items are safe before finding new homes for the equipment.
Lisa Childs, a director at Broad Street DIY, said many tools could be reused by others, even if they need simple repairs.
“Many of these ‘unwanted’ items can’t be put into domestic recycling bins, so we’re offering a collection point where people can easily drop them off and we will make sure they are donated to a good cause.”
The scheme will help people declutter their sheds and make a difference to the lives of those who need them.
