MEMBERS of Bromsgrove’s Court Leet went off on a tour of the town centre’s pubs for their annual Inner Ale Tasting event.
Bailiff John Wheatly, Reeve Phil Harper and deputy ale taster Steve Sanders and dignatries from other Courts, including mayors, bell ringers and ale tasters ensured there was plenty of merriment and ale during the night.
They began at The Unionist Club, journeying to The Little Ale House, Golden Cross and Red Lion and, citizens of Bromsgrove will be pleased to know, the ale was confirmed as being of good quality and fit for drinking by residents.
Each venue received a certificate and a sprig of spruce to be hung above the pub door – an ancient tradition – to ensure those who could not read were aware the pub served quality ale.
After the tasting, the Court proceeded up to St John’s Church Hall where there was an Elizabethan Medieval Banquet – food had been prepared by church volunteers and there was music to accompany the meal of leek and potato soup, roast herb infused chicken with jacket potato and salad, along with a platter of finest English cheeses to finish.
The Serendipity ale drunk with the meal was some of the last bottles from the now closed Bird’s Brewery.
The church hall also received a certificate of quality.
