Campaigners to protest demolition of sports hall outside the Dolphin Centre this Saturday

CAMPAIGNERS will gather outside the Dolphin Centre from 10am to 1pm on Saturday to protest against proposals to bulldoze the sports hall and not replace it.

Chris Barnett, from Save Our Sports Hall, said: “We believe Bromsgrove District Council is making a huge mistake by building a new leisure centre without a sports hall and we intend to keep up the pressure for them to review the scheme.

“This Saturday’s demonstration is also about informing the local residents about what’s going on because it’s not an issue that’s so widely understood.”

Chris said residents were also invited to write messages to their councillors on postcards which would be distributed at the demonstration.

The demonstration is being supported by Chris Bloore and Dr Michael Thompson who would also be there.

Coun Chris Bloore said: “Many people still don’t know our leisure centre is being downgraded and that Conservative councillors have chosen to take away this much needed facility.

“My attempts in the chamber to stop the downgrading of our leisure centre have been defeated by Conservative councillors at every turn so I urge users of the sports hall and concerned residents to join us on Saturday morning to try and make them think again with people power.”
