THE SPORT Relief mile is gathering pace and getting nearer and residents are getting ready to do their bit.
Barnt Green villagers are busy lacing up their trainers ready for its third annual event on March 20 which promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
A total of 280 people will be running on the day, tackling courses of one, three and six miles from Millennium Park in the centre of the village. The Barnt Green mile will pass through the picturesque countryside and include views of the Bittell Reservoirs.
Waves of runners will start at midday, preceded by a fun warm-up in the park.
Runners will finish by 2pm when there will be a host of fun and entertainment in the park.
There will be music from local band Echo Beach and DJ Jay Bridges, along with refreshments from Tardebigge Cider, Ed’s Bar and a fantastic Meadow Farm Butchers. There will also be tea and cakes from the scouts and guides.
Mike Dickenson is from the Barnt Green running club The Chuggers, which has organised the event in conjunction with the parish council.
He said: “The Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Mile in Barnt Green is here and it’s your time to walk or run yourself proud. From little ones with their mums and dads, to runners up against the clock there’s something for everyone to make themselves feel proud on this special day.”
Village resident Mary Jephcott said, “It was seeing the first Sport Relief Mile that made us want to move to Barnt Green, it’s great to be able to take part with my kids this year and enjoy all that’s planned for the party in the park afterwards.”
