A GUIDED walk to celebrate 60 years of the green belt will take place on Saturday (October 3).

The event, which starts at the Lickey Hills Country Park Visitor Centre, Warren Lane (B45 8ER) at 2pm, has been organised by the North Worcestershire branch of the Campaign to Protect Rural England (CPRE).

Following the walk, there will be afternoon tea and a talk at 4pm at Barnt Green Sailing Club, Bittell Reservoir, off Cofton Church Lane (B45 8BH).

That will be given by Neil Sinden, the CPRE campaigns officer, who will speak about the past, present and future of the green belt.

Transport back to the visitor centre will be provided for those who do not want to walk back.

Janet King, the secretary of the North Worcestershier CPRE, said: “The green belt has proved extremely effective in combatting urban sprawl since it was introduced in 1955.

“With a green belt review expected soon it is timely to recognise its importance.”

A donation of £2 is requested towards the cost of the afternoon tea.

Because of the catering, booking in advance is essential.

To book, e-mail Janet at [email protected] or call her on 0121 445 2802.
