Bromsgrove falls silent on Armistice Day

BROMSGROVE High Street came to a standstill for a two minute silence in honour of the country’s fallen soldiers.

More than 200 people stood and watched the heartfelt Armistice Day service lead by Rev Margaret Woodgate at 11am today (Tuesday) at the Odd Fellows Memorial.

Rev Woodgate led everybody in a prayer, asking all to remember those who had laid down their lives for piece and sacrificed so much.

The heavy rain and wind poignantly reflected the sombre atmosphere of the occasion.

Sarah Chapman, 16, from Bromsgrove School, played the Last Post, Exhortation and Reveille on a solid silver bugle which was played at The Battle of the Sommes in the First World War.

Coun Janice Boswell said: “The fantastic turn-out means people are really thinking and learning more about the world wars and what it means to us.

“Bromsgrove has got such a wonderful Royal British Legion which has been bringing us all together and uniting the town.

“VJ day and the Remembrance has brought the town together to commemorate acts of war – please God let us now enjoy peace forever.”
