Garden club gets cash boost from NW Rotary

A COMMUNITY garden project set up to provide residents with the chance to grow fruit and vegetables and learn about nutrition has been given a cash boost.

The £250 donation to the St Andrew’s Church garden in Charford was given by the Rotary Club of North Worcestershire and the town’s new Homebase store and the cash will be used to pay for much-needed equipment and seeds.

As well as children, the elderly, unemployed and the disabled being able to try their hand at gardening, some of the produce is also used to provide a nutritious lunch for those less well off.

Items grown there are placed behind the church during services and members, who are mainly elderly, take what they need and give a small donation if they can.

Dave Foster, the Rotary Club of North Worcestershire’s president, said he was delighted that, in the current economic climate, the group was able to support local projects and charities.

“The St Andrew’s Garden project is an excellent example of where we can help those involved to benefit both themselves and the community.” he added.
