SOUTH-WEST Birmingham residents are being urged to go along to a consultation on the next stages of the Longbridge development.

The event will take place at the 1st Floor, Severn House, High Street, Longbridge – opposite Costa coffee – from 4pm to 8pm on Wednesday (November 25).

Plans include major transport and digital infrastructure packages; new residential and office development; as well as a new accommodation building for the medical teams working at the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine (RCDM) Birmingham.

On display will be further details on the M42 Connectivity package that includes improvements to Longbridge Lane, Tessall Lane and Longbridge Island for both pedestrians and drivers, to be brought forward by Birmingham City Council, Centro; the West Midlands’ public transport co-ordinator, and St. Modwen through the £8m Growth Fund scheme.

Public transport links are also set to benefit with £1million proposals for enhancements to Longbridge Rail Station alongside an expansion of the existing Park & Ride facilities, improvements to bus shelters, pedestrian and bus passenger information and a Cycle Link scheme.

Proposals will also include the new Marks & Spencer, along with 215 residential properties and 105,000sqft of offices – both in the town centre.

And there will be discussions on the Royal Centre for Defence Medicine residential facility, subject to final client approval, and the 260 Extracare residential units.
