MEMBERS of Bromsgrove WI welcomed the Centenary Baton which has been making its way around the country ahead of next year’s Women’s Institute centenary celebrations.
Avoncroft Museum was chosen as the town’s venue to host the momentous occasion.
Each branch of the WI in the district was allocated a building, with members being challenged to dress appropriately for that era and to come up with a resolution suitable at that time.
After singing All Things Bright and Beautiful at the Bringsty Chapel, Blackwell and Burcot WI called for a resolution asking for the introduction of an old age pension, which, back then, was already commonplace in Germany and New Zealand.
As each group read their own petitions, the afternoon became more and more interesting, moving and thought-provoking about how far the WI movement had come.
There was then a well-deserved tea for members in the Guesten Hall.
