SPENCER Machin will step down as manager of Bromsgrove Rovers AFC at the end of the season after four years in charge, writes Neil Gordon.
The shock announcement came late on Friday when Rovers AFC issued a statement confirming Machin’s intentions to stand down as first team manager at the end of the current campaign.
Assistant manager Kristian Rock and first-team coach Ryan Machin will also leave their respective posts once this season concludes.
A statement released by the club confirmed: “It is with great regret that we announce first team manager Spencer Machin will be stepping down following the conclusion of the current campaign.
“Spencer informed the club in early February of his plans to step away from his duties at the end of the season. At the point of resignation, Spencer had managed 90 games for Rovers AFC since he and the club formed the first team back in April 2022.
“Since then, Spencer has guided the team to four semi-finals and two promotions.
“We also regret that assistant Kristian Rock and coach Ryan Machin will also be stepping down from their roles at the end of the season.
“Kristian and Ryan have also been part of the set up since day one, with Kristian in his current role of assistant, while Ryan began as a player before becoming coach after suffering a serious injury.
“We would like to thank Spencer, Kristian and Ryan for their continued help and efforts over the past four years.
“We would also like to clarify that Kristian and Spencer will continue to hold their respective posts of club chairman and committee member.”
News of the departures comes with the first team playing at its highest level since the club formed four years ago, in Division One of the Birmingham and District Football League.
This coming after two successive close-season promotions, under manager Machin, from Division Two and Division Three, where the side began in 2022.
And Machin could sign off as manager by steering the team to its first piece of silverware when his side competes in the final of the Intermediate Cup at the end of the season.
