BROMSGROVE ROVERS AFC face a crunch showdown against title rivals Silhill with both teams waiting on a possible points deduction after the resignation of Yardley Wood, writes Neil Gordon.
Rovers AFC and Silhill will meet next week in a game which could prove pivotal in the destination of the Birmingham and District Football League Division Two title.
Silhill currently sit top and three points ahead of second-placed Bromsgrove.
However, all Division Two sides are waiting to learn if Yardley Wood’s results will be expunged.
Yardley Wood’s resignation came after the club were fined around £500 for breaches of league rules.
Should the points deduction occur, Silhill would lose six points from their two victories over the strugglers. Bromsgrove would lose three points having played and beaten the now-defunct outfit once.
Bromsgrove would also become joint leaders with Silhill should the Division Two table be redrafted as it now stands.
A spokesperson for the Birmingham and District Football League said: “The league committee responsible for deciding on what action to take following Yardley Wood’s resignation will follow Football Association guidelines.
“If a team resigns having played less than 75 percent of fixtures their results are expunged and points collected by the opposition deducted.”
Yardley Wood quit the league having completed 50 percent of their fixtures meaning a points deduction is likely.
Meanwhile, Bromsgrove and Silhill are both looking to return to winning ways after both losing last time out.
Bromsgrove were beaten 6-4 at Boldmere Sports and Social Falcons while Silhill lost 2-0 against North Solihull.
Bromsgrove play Polesworth North Warwick on Saturday, March 1 with kick-off at 2.30pm at Charford Road and admission free.
