THE BAKER on Bromsgrove Market was given a surprise by a kind-hearted man and fellow customers on his birthday.

Frank Fallon found out about Gabor’s birthday on Saturday so he put together a card from him and the Hungarian baker’s other regulars and got him a balloon.

He also teamed up with Michelle and Lilith from Butcher’s Block who filmed his reaction when Frank presented him with the items and sang ‘happy birthday’.

Frank also had a whip round for some cash for Gabor but the modest baker said he could not accept it.

The card read: ‘Boldog szuletesnapot’ (best wishes on your birthday) and ‘God bless you and may you live so long your ears reach your ankles’ – a Hungarian birthday greeting.

The pun-filled message also included the words: ‘From all your Hungary bread lovers in Bromsgrove – here’s some dough in case you knead it’.

Gabor thanked him and said ‘he could not believe it’.

Frank told the Standard: “Everyone loves Gabor – he’s such a nice guy and people come from miles around to buy his bread and pastries – everyone raves about how good his creations are.

“He’s the life and soul of Bromsgrove Market and it is a very traditional stall, offering things you just cannot get anywhere else.

“I just had to do something for him on his birthday.”

Frank is no stranger to The Standard’s news pages for his kind-hearted antics. At Christmas time, he dressed up as Santa and surprised Bromsgrove’s refuse collectors with mince pies and a festive tip.

And, back in 2020, he and his neighbours surprised postie Colin Swift who had delivered their mail for 24 years.
