BROMSGROVE ROVERS AFC claimed a stunning 5-2 win against nine-man Silhill B to leapfrog their opponents and move top of the table, writes Neil Gordon.

Rovers raced into a three-goal lead courtesy of Jack Dawkins’ goal and a Bailey Depper-Gwilliams double at Charford Road.

Silhill cut the deficit to a single goal and thought they had drawn level when a shot hit both posts and appeared to cross the line only for the referee to allow play to continue.

A brace from Ryan Moore sealed victory for Bromsgrove which came either side of Silhill having two players sent off.

The result means Rovers sit top of the Birmingham and District League Division Two table, two points clear of weekend opponents Silhill.

Dawkins fired Bromsgrove into the lead from close range before Depper-Gwilliams struck twice to put the home side in command.

Silhill reduced the deficit before half time when Stefan Ciesar finished at the back post.

And Ben Stratford further reduced arrears for Silihill after the break from the penalty spot.

The visitors looked to have completed a remarkable comeback when Daniel Ward’s shot from distance hit the inside of both posts and appeared to cross the line.

However, the referee let play carry on as the Silhill players surrounded the official to protest the non-award of the goal with Ward sent off for his protestations.

Moore sealed the points for Rovers with a brace while Silhill’s Adam Hemming saw red after the final whistle.

Rovers manager, Spencer Machin, said: “Top spot in the table is reward for the players.”

Bromsgrove host Wake Green Amateur in the Senior Cup on Saturday, October 26 at Charford Road with kick-off at 2.30pm and admission free.
