A RUBERY councillor has slammed ‘mindless vandals’ for ‘tarnishing’ the local neighbourhood with graffiti.
Bromsgrove District Councillor, Peter McDonald, says ‘ugly graffiti’ has reared its head in the town after a residents property was recently tagged with spray paint.
The councillor has held meetings with his fellow council officers and members of West Mercia Police to discuss ways to tackle the problem. Monitoring of the area is set to increase according to the Rubery North representative.
Graffiti is particularly concerning for Coun McDonald as he believes it creates a feeling of ‘neglect’ and encourages further vandalism which in turn discourages ‘much needed’ investment in local parks.
Coun McDonald said: “It’s more than just an unsightly nuisance, graffiti is a form of vandalism that devalues property and consumes valuable police time and other public resources.
“These mindless vandals are running down our neighbourhood and in doing so making it look unsafe and unwelcoming.
“Hopefully, increased monitoring by the police will bring an end to it.”
West Mercia Police have been approached for comment.
