A RUBERY councillor has made an urgent call for people to stop using Lickey Hills Golf Course as a race track.

‘Distressed’ groundsman have reported severe damage to the golf course and the Lickey Hills Beacon, which appears to have been caused by off-road motorbikes.

The issue has been raised with local Rubery councillor – Esther Gray – and West Mercia Police. The golf course is currently unusable whilst lengthy repairs are carried out.

Bromsgrove District Councillor Gray said: “Whoever is causing this anguish needs to stop. Have some respect.

“Lots of people enjoy playing golf here because it is a public space, and the grounds take a lot of hard work to maintain for your enjoyment.”

West Mercia Police have confirmed reports of criminal damage have been made and officers are due to meet with management of the course to discuss ways of preventing further issues.
