AROUND 60 passengers had to be evacuated from a West Midlands Railway train on the Cross City Line on Saturday afternoon before being led down the track which had been shut off.

The closure happened around 2.15pm after a fallen tree fell onto the tracks during the stormy weather.

A West Midlands Railway spokesperson said: “Passengers were safely guided off a train when a tree fell on the tracks between Barnt Green and Kings Norton in the afternoon on Saturday.

“Passengers on affected services either boarded a separate train or a coach at Longbridge.”

Road transport was then arranged to run between Redditch and Longbridge while engineers dealt with the problems, which included damage to overhead wires.

Normal service resumed at 6pm.
