ADAM Jones topped the standings at Alvechurch Fisheries as he swept aside the rest of the field to win the Open Colmic at the Canal Lake.

But the angler from Black Country AC finished just 1lb shy of claiming a ton and making it an even more memorable day.

Jones (peg 1) fished long pole and banded pellet up to the reeds throughout to get stockies up to 3lbs and a mixed bag of silvers for 99lbs 1oz.

Steve Bellion (peg 6) was his nearest rival, fishing alternately across to the reeds and down the track with 6ml banded pellet to weigh stockies and silvers for 83lbs 8oz.

He just edged out Terry Homer, who scored 80lbs 5oz after fishing across the reads and down the left with pole and pellet for a net of stockies and silvers.

Only 8lbs separated third and sixth, with Rob Gandley (peg 10) just falling short of a top-three finish with 79lbs 6oz.

Andy Newton (peg 18) came fifth after fishing two tactics, pole and pellet down the track and late down the margin for a mixed net of 76lbs 10oz, while Warren Beach adapted similar tactics for his mixed bag of 72lbs 3oz.
