BROMSGROVE’s under-12 boys team achieved a first for the hockey club when competing in the National Finals, writes Neil Gordon.

The side finished seventh in the country after securing impressive victories against teams from Deeside and Harrogate during the tournament at the National Hockey Centre in Nottingham.

The team reached the Finals after earlier successes during County and Midlands rounds.

Coach Peter Bryant said: “The boys played with great spirit, skill and determination throughout the tournament and should be very proud at being ranked as one of the best teams in the Country.”

Alan Gormley, head of development coaching, added: “The appearance at a National Finals day is a great reflection of the development of hockey through Bromsgrove’s Junior Academy.

“We have over 240 players supported by lots of terrific coaches and parents.

“We are committed to growing the sport in the town and have taken on a second community coach to help us achieve this aim.

“Our objective is to let as many children as possible enjoy our sport and, if they wish, to go on to play senior hockey in the future.

“Now that we have experienced playing in National Finals there is a desire to sample it again.”
