BROMSGROVE School’s under-18’s rugby 7s side came out on top in the Rosslyn Park HSBC National Schools 7s Vase recently.

The two day tournament proved a fruitful one for the school, who got off to the ideal start by winning four out of four in the group stage – beating Pocklington (22-0), King’s School, Bruton (43-0), Wisbech (26-10) and Worksop (36-17).

In the group winners play-off final, they won with a dominant performance in a 38-5 victory against Ysgol y Preseli, sending them through to day two and into the quarter-final pools.

There, they won by a landslide against Cathedral School, Llandaff, beating them 82-0, followed up with a 41-7 scoreline against Norwich School.

In the semi-final pools, Bromsgrove continued to impress, beating USP Seevic College 32-12 and then Oakham – viewed by many as favourites, 26-21.

The school had a few hours rest time before facing Rugby School in the Vase Final, but it would not affect their energy rates as they were more than competent in getting around the pitch in defence or attack.

A 26-5 win crowned them champions after a stunning performance, one that left Director of Rugby at the school, Tony Windo, beaming with joy.

“Winning the Rosslyn Park Vase final is an amazing achievement and something the boys should be immensely proud of.

“Throughout the term the boys have conducted themselves and trained exceptionally well and they now have a tangible reward for all of their hard work.”
