A PAIR of promising Bromsgrove tennis stars have booked their place on the hallowed Wimbledon courts after finishing as runners-up in the regional finals of a major competition.
Owen Perry and Tom Round competed against junior tennis players from across Herefordshire and Worcestershire in the regional finals of grassroots tournament Play Your Way to Wimbledon, Powered by Vodafone.
And the two 17-year-old’s made it all the way to the final, where they were beaten by the number one seeds, having come through a mammoth opening match at Sutton Coldfield Tennis Club.
The second seeds had to play in heavy rain before prevailing 3-4(6), 4-3(7), 10-5 in their first match, one of three they played at the tournament, and advance to Wimbledon as runners-up.
And both teenagers, who are members at Bromsgrove Tennis Club, can now look forward to competing at Wimbledon on Tuesday, August 9.
Owen’s parents would like to thank the Harry Bennett Foundation who donated towards the cost of purchasing new rackets and the traditional white clothing.
The foundation helps people achieve their sporting dreams by supplying financial support for equipment and training.
