SWIMMING - Hat-trick of achievements for Bromsgrove Swimming Club

BROMSGROVE Swimming Club have plenty of reasons to celebrate after a hat-trick of recent successes.

The club had eight of its swimmers compete at the Regional Long Course (50m pool) Championships as Krystof Wood won two gold medals and Emily Bower claimed bronze.

Wood triumphed in the 50-metre freestyle and 50-metre backstroke whilst Bower took bronze in the 50-metre freestyle at the Alan Higgs Centre in Coventry.

The event brings together the fastest swimmers in the West Midlands as they compete for championship titles.

Head Coach Matt Lowe said: “It is a fantastic achievement to take so many swimmers to the Regional Championships and the icing on the cake was that two of our swimmers came home with medals.

“Emily Bower won bronze in the 50m Freestyle and Krystof Wood won two golds in the 50m Freestyle and 50m backstroke.”

Following that success, Bromsgrove SC also had three swimmers qualify for the British Summer Championships.

This includes both Wood and Bower along with Luke Jones with the trio set to take part in the highest level of domestic competition.

Invitations are sent to the top 24 swimmers in Britain for each event following the close of the qualifying window.

Lowe added: “The run up to this date can be brutal for our swimmers as they can move up and down the qualifying list according to the open meets they attend.”

And completing the hat-trick is qualification into the PGL Swimming League final which takes place in Gloucester this weekend.

Club Chair Charlotte Bower said: “We are so pleased with the progress this club has made and each one of our achievements shows how strong we are throughout the club.

“As the PGL gala is aimed at our younger swimmers just starting out on their competitive careers and throughout the stages of the competition we give as many of our swimmers the chance to be part of the gala as we can.

“We are so proud of all the hard work that our swimmers and coaches put into every training session, it’s a pleasure to Chair such an ambitious friendly and successful club.”
