Spa's hard work not enough against county's best

A GOALLESS draw was one of the highlights for Droitwich Spa Hockey Club’s u11s side at the Worcestershire Tournament as they struggled to get much reward for their endeavour.

Droitwich scrapped until the end against Stourport, but their more confident and skilfull opponents proved too strong as they ran out 4-0 winners despite the best efforts of Alex Gurr in goal.

This result spurred on the hosts, who were playing at the Droitwich Spa Leisure Centre, as they came out with more urgency against Kings Heath Pickwick.

They tackled and worked hard at keeping the opposition out, but the Birmingham side eventually broke the deadlock midway through the half, with a quick-fire double.

Kings Heath added another before condemning Droitwich to a second successive 4-0 loss.

The heavy defeats could have knocked the stuffing out of Spa, but instead the home side produced a sterling performance against Bromsgrove.

Droitwich were quicker to the ball and pushed further up the park with greater energy, allowing the team to create opportunities which Spa’s forwards could not convert.

Extra aggression along the back line kept Bromsgrove at bay with the keeper making a series of excellent kicker saves to claim a 0-0 draw.
