Singh impressed with Barnt Green Spartak's progress

BARNT Green Spartak boss GJ Singh believes his squad is slowly pushing in the right direction.

The Lions put on a battling performance on Saturday in a 1-0 defeat to much-fancied Walsall Wood in the FA Vase first qualifying round before following that up with a 3-1 victory over Northfield Town three days later in the Smedley Crooke Memorial Charity Cup.

Dominic Strevens (2) and Joe Simms bagged the goals as Spartak picked up their third win in five games.

“I was over the moon with how the lads conducted themselves against Walsall Wood but unfortunately the result went against us,” said Singh.

“Nobody but ourselves expected to get a result and people can call me crazy for thinking that way.

“We had our chances but they scored a great goal to win it but it was great to see Walsall giving us credit for giving them a good game.

“And then to follow that up with a good win over Northfield shows the performances as of late are something to be proud and happy about.”

Singh will be hoping Spartak continue their impressive performances on Saturday when they make the trip to Redditch Borough.

“If we continue with the way we have been playing we are well capable of getting a good result,” he said.

“Redditch are a decent side but hopefully we can be a tough test for them.

“All I have ever wanted to do is be competitive in this league and we are slowly getting back to what we used to be.

“We will go up to Redditch, give it our best shot and see what we get back.”
