BARNT Green Spartak manager GJ Singh has identified his strike force as a key area to be improved upon ahead of the 2016/17 Midland League Division Two campaign.
Spartak, who ended last season in 10th place, only scored 35 goals all season with Curvin Ellis finishing as top scorer with seven goals in nine appearances.
Yet in Spartak’s fourth place finish the year before, Johane Thompson ended the season with 16 goals in 27 outings.
Talking to the Standard, Singh said finding prolific goalscorers is key this summer if they wish to progress up the table.
“We have been fairly quiet at the moment but until those forms are released at the start of the July and players actually put on a shirt, nobody has signed anyone,” he said.
“From a recruitment point of view, we did not score enough goals last season as we were short of attacking option.
“We had a better squad last season than the year before but we didn’t gel and finding some goalscoring talent is our priority this summer.
“If you look at the proposed constitution next season, it’s going to be a really strong division to get out of and as our target is to gain promotion to Division One, it’s going to be a tough season.”
